Ambient Air monitoring is concerned with monitoring the air quality in the locality. The most common type of ambient air monitoring is for dust, especially for quarries and sites with Waste Licenses and Waste Permits. Formaldehyde is often monitored for around board mills. Where fine dust is a potential problem, the PM10 and PM2.5 dust fractions are monitored.
Environmental Efficiency can undertake the entire range of ambient monitoring and is able to monitor for dust, PM10, PM2.5, formaldehyde and many other substances. Dust monitoring is generally for 30 days using Bergerhoff Dust Gauges. PM10, PM2.5 is usually monitored for 24 hours using automated samplers. Formaldehydes and other substances are monitored for shorter periods usually using impingers; other monitoring techniques include thermal decomposition tubes.
